Mountain BizWorks — Western NC Small Business Loans
Mountain BizWorks
$1,000–$500,000
Western NC mountain business loans
Mountain BizWorks is a U.S. Treasury-certified, place-based CDFI that has made small business loans for more than 30 years across the 26 westernmost (Appalachian) counties of North Carolina, with offices in Asheville and Boone. Loans range from $1,000 to $500,000 and are aimed at entrepreneurs who find it hard to secure financing from banks and other traditional sources — with a particular focus on low-income, rural, women, and people-of-color entrepreneurs. Lending is paired with high-touch business courses and customized coaching. The small business is the direct borrower. Mountain BizWorks also runs Helene disaster-recovery programs (e.g., WNC Strong recovery loans up to $100,000 and Rural Rebuilding Together grants up to $25,000 in specific downtown districts), but its durable core offering is the CDFI small business loan.

If you were hit by Hurricane Helene, ask specifically about WNC Strong recovery loans and any open Rural Rebuilding Together grant rounds in your downtown district, which stack on top of core lending.
Deadline & timing
Core CDFI loans are accepted on a rolling basis. Special programs (e.g., Helene recovery grants) run in defined application windows when funded.
