SXSW's marquee startup pitch
SXSW Pitch is the marquee startup pitch competition of the SXSW Conference, held each March in Austin, Texas as part of the Startups Track. Now in its 18th year (2026), roughly 45 companies are hand-selected by an advisory board from ~600 applicants across nine sector categories and pitch live before a panel of venture capitalists, angel investors, and high-profile media. Category winners, a Best in Show, and special awards (Best Bootstrap, Best Speed Pitch, Best Inclusivity, plus a KPMG-sponsored award) are recognized. Each category winner, Best in Show, and special-award winner receives a cash prize plus the SXSW Arrow Trophy and conference badges, though SXSW does not publish the dollar amount; the cash is real but modest relative to the marquee investment competitions, and the primary value remains exposure, investor access, and credibility — historically more than 80% of past SXSW Pitch companies have gone on to secure funding, collectively raising over $22 billion.

Pitch live at SXSW in Austin
Selected companies pitch live in March before VC, angel, and media judges, competing for category wins, Best in Show, and special awards. Prepare a polished live pitch and Q&A.
~25 hrs
SXSW Pitch is a marketing and fundraising event more than a cash grab — the win is the room (top-tier VC and media judges) and the SXSW spotlight, which has translated into $22B+ in downstream funding for past cohorts. Budget for the entry fee plus the real cost of attending SXSW in Austin, and treat selection as a PR/fundraising catalyst rather than a source of prize money. The Student Startups category is a lower-competition entry point.
Deadline & timing
For the 2026 (18th annual) edition, the Early-Bird entry period ran June 24 – September 12, 2025 ($100 fee) and Regular entry September 13 – November 7, 2025 ($220 fee); the competition was held March 13–14, 2026 at the JW Marriott Austin. The cycle repeats annually alongside the SXSW Conference.
