DAV Patriot Boot Camp

DAV (Disabled American Veterans) — Patriot Boot Camp

Pitch prizes (thousands)

The short version

Boot camp + pitch funds for vets

DAV Patriot Boot Camp is a free, multi-day entrepreneurship intensive for the veteran and military-connected community, including active-duty service members and military spouses. Originally founded as a Techstars program, it is now run by DAV. Each cohort delivers hands-on education (business planning, marketing, legal, funding, AI for founders, storytelling), one-on-one mentorship with experienced operators, and a peer founder network, culminating in a live pitch contest that awards non-dilutive (no equity, no repayment) cash funding to selected founders. Cohorts run in-person at rotating US cities plus digital programming; DAV covers programming and meals while participants cover their own travel and lodging.

Who qualifies

Hard requirements

What it covers

Eligible expenses

  • Pitch-contest cash awards are non-dilutive and unrestricted in practice (no equity, no repayment)
  • General business expenses (working capital, marketing, equipment) for any cash won

Ineligible expenses

  • Program covers education, mentorship, and meals — it does not reimburse participant travel or lodging

How to apply

  1. 1

Confirm an upcoming cohort and apply early

Check the DAV Patriot Boot Camp site or mailing list for the next cohort/city. Seats are limited and fill on a first-come, first-served basis, so apply as soon as registration opens.

    ~0.5 hrs

  2. 2

    Submit the founder application

Provide your military-connection status, a description of your business or business idea, and basic company details (EIN/website if available). The application screens for veteran/military eligibility and a scalable, growth-oriented venture.

    ~1.5 hrs

  3. 3

    Prepare travel and pitch

If accepted, arrange your own travel/lodging (DAV covers programming and meals). Build and refine a short pitch — the program includes pitch coaching and culminates in a pitch contest for non-dilutive cash funds.

    ~6 hrs

Insider tip

The real prize here is access, not the cash. Treat the pitch contest as secondary and maximize the mentor one-on-ones and peer network — past participants credit the connections (and follow-on introductions to capital) far more than the modest pitch winnings. Apply the moment a cohort opens; seats are capped and go fast.

Deadline & timing

Cohorts run on a rolling, first-come/first-served basis throughout the year at rotating US cities. A June 2026 cohort in Salt Lake City was announced with applications closing once seats filled (or ~May 18, 2026). Join the mailing list for future dates.
