Global NY Fund Grant Program
Empire State Development (ESD) — Global NY Division
Up to $25,000 (companies)
NY state export-growth grant
The Global NY Fund Grant Program is a state export-assistance grant from Empire State Development that reimburses New York small and mid-size companies for the cost of starting or expanding direct exports. For-profit companies can receive up to $25,000 reimbursing up to 50% of eligible project costs; not-for-profit economic development organizations that provide export assistance can receive up to $100,000 reimbursing up to 75% of costs. Eligible activities include trade-show and trade-mission participation, market customization, export workshops, and adapting products for foreign regulatory compliance. Applications are accepted on a continuous (rolling) basis, with an average processing time of about 90 days. It is distinct from the federally-funded Global NY STEP grant, which is the state's SBA State Trade Expansion Program reimbursement.

How to apply
-
1
Confirm eligibility and plan the export project
Verify NY location, 1-year operating history, NY content (51%) or producer status, and scope your export-development activities (trade shows, missions, market customization, compliance adaptation).
~5 hrs
-
2
Prepare the Global NY Fund application with a project budget
Document eligible costs and the 50% (company) match. Build the budget so reimbursement maps cleanly to receipts; do not incur costs before award (except allowed trade-show deposits).
~8 hrs
-
3
Submit on a rolling basis and await review
Submit to ESD's Global NY Division; average processing is about 90 days. Plan the project start after expected award notification.
~2 hrs
-
4
Execute the project and submit for reimbursement
Carry out the approved export activities, then submit documentation/receipts for reimbursement of up to 50% of eligible costs (up to $25,000).
~6 hrs
This is a separate pot from Global NY STEP — you can often pursue STEP and the Global NY Fund grant for different export activities, so ask your ESD Global NY contact how to sequence them. Because it reimburses up to 50%, structure your project around a single high-ROI activity (one major trade show or mission) with clean receipts rather than a sprawling budget; and never start spending before your award letter, or those costs become ineligible.
Deadline & timing
No fixed cycle. Allow sufficient time (about 90 days average) between submission and the project start date, since costs generally cannot be incurred before award notification (trade-show deposits excepted). 2026 program guidelines are posted.
