DTE Energy — Energy Efficiency Program for Business
DTE Energy
Prescriptive per-measure + custom incentives
Michigan business efficiency rebates
DTE Energy's Energy Efficiency Program for Business pays its Michigan commercial and industrial electric and natural-gas customers to install efficient equipment. It offers prescriptive incentives (set amounts for common measures such as VSD compressors, zero-loss drains, lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, and data-center upgrades) and custom incentives (based on estimated annual energy savings) for improvements that don't fit a prescriptive category. Reservation applications are strongly encouraged for all projects and required before starting custom and some prescriptive work, so DTE can hold rebate funding. Projects must be completed within 90 days of the reservation confirmation date or by November 30, 2026 — whichever comes first. The program is open to DTE commercial and industrial electric and gas customers in good standing.

How to apply
-
1
Review qualifying measures and reserve funding
Check the DTE business rebate catalog and submit a reservation application (strongly encouraged for all projects; required for custom and some prescriptive) so DTE holds your rebate funding before work begins.
~1.5 hrs
-
2
Install qualifying equipment
Complete the installation within 90 days of the reservation confirmation date (or by Nov 30, 2026, whichever is first), keeping invoices and equipment specs.
~1 hrs
-
3
Submit the rebate application
Complete and submit the online application at dteenergy.com/business/application with invoices, equipment details, and the reservation reference.
~1.5 hrs
-
4
Receive the incentive
DTE reviews documentation and issues the prescriptive or custom incentive once the project is verified.
~0.5 hrs
File the reservation application BEFORE you buy or start work, even for prescriptive measures where it's only 'encouraged' — it locks in your funding and protects you against the Nov 30 program-year cutoff and budget exhaustion. A DTE-registered contractor will usually handle the reservation and rebate paperwork.
Deadline & timing
Reservation applications are strongly encouraged for all projects and required before starting custom and some prescriptive work. The binding completion deadline is the earlier of 90 days from the reservation letter date or Nov 30, 2026. Program continues year over year with refreshed catalogs.
