How to apply

  1. 1

Verify active license and good standing with KCMO

Confirm all business licenses and permits are current. Request a KCMO Tax Clearance Letter from the City Finance Department — this is required with the application. Clearance letters typically take 5–10 business days.

  2. 2

Plan your outdoor dining enhancement project and get quotes

Define the scope: patio structure, walkway expansion, outdoor furniture, umbrellas/coverings, or permit costs. Obtain contractor or vendor quotes. The project must result in a net increase in outdoor dining tables available to customers.

  3. 3

    Submit the application to KCMO

Apply through kcmo.gov/programs-initiatives/dining-outdoor-enhancement-program. Include your KCMO Tax Clearance letter, project description, scope of improvements, and cost documentation. Contact the City for current application portal and status.

  4. 4

    Receive award and complete improvements

Award notifications are typically issued within 4–6 weeks of a complete application. Purchase approved materials and complete the outdoor dining improvements. Document completion with photos.

  5. 5

Submit for reimbursement or receive advance

Submit paid receipts for reimbursement per the grant agreement terms. Grant recipients also receive reduced City permit/inspection fees for sidewalk and street café assembly as an additional benefit.
