eBay Up & Running Grant Review — 2026
Is the eBay Up & Running Grant real? Yes — and in 2026 it got five times harder. eBay has run this program every year since 2020 and, by its own count published on May 28, 2026, has awarded more than $3 million. But the 2026 edition is a different program from the one most guides describe. eBay rebranded it “eBay Live x Up & Running,” cut the pool from $500,000 to $100,000, and cut the number of grants from 50 to 10 — each still a flat $10,000, now paired with eBay Live mentorship and a pro-level live-selling equipment kit instead of the $500 eBay Refurbished stipend earlier cohorts received. The window ran May 28 to June 25, 2026 and is shut. Where the 2026 cycle actually stands today
Closed and undecided. Applications shut at 6:00pm ET on June 25, 2026; on August 27, 2026 eBay’s Seller Center says a panel is still reviewing and that grantees will be introduced at eBay’s Winter Seller Check-In, which fell on October 23 in 2025 and November 14 in 2024.
There are only two people searching for this program in late August 2026, and they need opposite answers. If you applied, you want to know whether you have been passed over. If you did not, you want to know whether there is still a way in this year. Here is what eBay’s own pages say, read on August 27, 2026.

The window ran May 28 to June 25, 2026 and closed at 6:00pm ET. eBay runs one intake a year; there is no second round, no waitlist and no late entry.
- WaitSilence is not a rejection. eBay says selected sellers are notified by email. It does not say non-selected applicants hear anything at all, and no prior year’s release describes a decline notice.

What changed in 2026: 50 grants became 10
eBay kept the $10,000 cheque and cut everything around it — the pool fell from $500,000 to $100,000, the number of recipients from 50 to 10, and the program was rebuilt around eBay Live rather than general seller growth.
This is the fact that most write-ups about the eBay grant have not caught up with, and it changes the decision completely. Every guide describing “50 grants of $10,000” is describing the 2024 or 2025 cycle. eBay’s press release of May 28, 2026 describes something else: “$100,000 commitment will empower 10 sellers to become eBay Live success stories.”

The reframing is not cosmetic. eBay Live is the company’s live-shopping format, and eBay’s own description of it names the categories where it currently runs: sports trading cards, collectible toys, comics, beauty, tools, and luxury goods including watches, handbags and jewelry. The 2026 grant is explicitly an investment in that format — the equipment kit and the mentorship only make sense for a seller who intends to stream. eBay was careful to say in its community announcement that “all sellers are eligible to apply, including current eBay Live sellers and those interested in joining the platform,” so live-selling experience was not a gate. But a reviewer choosing ten winners out of a national field, for a program named after eBay Live, is going to weigh a live-commerce plan heavily. Treat that as the shape of the program from here.
What eBay has not changed is the money itself. The award is a flat $10,000 in cash, identical for all recipients, non-dilutive and not repaid. There is no top tier and no smaller consolation cheque: the “up to $10,000” phrasing you will see on aggregator sites is wrong for this program. It is $10,000 or nothing.
You apply to eBay, but you apply through Hello Alice
eBay funds and judges the grant; Hello Alice runs the platform the application lives on, which means applying requires a free Hello Alice account and puts you inside a business-profile matching system that runs many other corporate grant programs.
Every cycle since at least 2024 has been administered by Hello Alice, and eBay describes the arrangement in its own words. Its April 25, 2024 press release says eBay is partnering with Hello Alice “to administer the grants program and provide access to mentorship and resources to all sellers who apply, whether they ultimately receive a grant or not.” The 2026 announcement sends applicants to helloalice.com/grants/ebay/; the 2024 one sent them to ebay.helloalice.com. Same relationship, tidier URL.
Two practical consequences. First, applying means creating a free Hello Alice account and filling in a business profile — industry, size, location, revenue, stage — because that profile is what the platform matches against sponsor criteria. Second, once you are in it, you are in it for everything: Hello Alice hosts corporate grant programs from Verizon, FedEx, DoorDash, Toast, PepsiCo and Antares Capital alongside eBay’s. That is a genuine benefit if you want to be found by the next sponsor, and a genuine cost if you did not intend to join a platform. Worth knowing before you assume the platform is a steady source of $10,000 cheques: on August 27, 2026 most of the marketplace-sponsor programs in the GrantCompass catalog are between intakes at the same time. Verizon Digital Ready’s Hello Alice-run cycle closed December 10, 2025; the FedEx Entrepreneur Fund closed November 21, 2025; the Venmo Small Business Grant and the Intuit / Mailchimp Small Business Hero Grant are both between cycles. Late summer is the quiet season for this whole category, which is exactly why it feels like there is nothing out there.
Who could actually apply — the seller bar
You must already be selling on eBay. The published eligibility list for the last cycle we could read in full required an active eBay seller account rated “Above Standard” or “Top Rated,” active listings in the past six months, a US/DC/Puerto Rico location, and no prior Up & Running award.
This is the single most useful thing to know before you spend an afternoon on it next spring, and it cuts both ways. The gate excludes anyone who is not already trading on eBay — which is most small businesses — and that same gate makes the field materially smaller than an open-to-everyone corporate grant. The rules below are quoted from the Hello Alice eBay program page as it stood in an archived copy dated May 15, 2026, describing the cycle then most recently run:
To qualify, an entrepreneur must be “the leading executive (i.e., Founder and/or President, CEO, CFO, COO, or any similar title) of a business that meets the criteria below” and “eighteen (18) years of age or older (19 in AL and NE).” To be eligible, a business must be “located in one of the fifty United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico,” “actively selling on eBay, with active listings in the past 6 months,” “rated ‘Above Standard’ or ‘Top Rated’ on eBay,” and “not a previous recipient of an eBay Up & Running Grant.”
Hello Alice, eBay Up & Running Grant program page, archived copy dated May 15, 2026A limit on this section, stated plainly. helloalice.com returns an HTTP 429 security checkpoint to every automated request, including to the Internet Archive, so the live 2026 terms and conditions could not be read first-hand and no archived copy of the 2026 window exists. Third-party grant directories publishing the 2026 rules repeat the list above and add an active-seller cut-off date of December 1, 2025, plus a required video response. We can corroborate the video from eBay’s own page — the panel is “reading as well as watching” — but not the rating requirement or the December cut-off for 2026 specifically. eBay’s own community post said only that “all sellers are eligible to apply.” Treat the seller-rating bar as the working assumption, and read the terms yourself on the Hello Alice page when the next window opens.
The GrantCompass record for the program lists the same six eligibility lines and estimates about four hours of work end to end — roughly half an hour to set up the Hello Alice account, half an hour to confirm seller status, two and a half hours on the written answers, and the submission itself. That estimate predates the video requirement, so budget more.

eBay has published an applicant count exactly once — over 18,000 for the 2024 cycle, which awarded 50 grants, about one in 360. It has published no count for 2026, but 2026 awarded a fifth as many grants.
Most corporate grant programs publish a winner count and never an applicant count, which makes a real win rate impossible to compute. eBay is a rare exception: in its September 26, 2024 announcement of the fifth annual recipients it wrote that “eBay received its largest and most diverse pool of Up & Running applicants to date, with over 18,000 submissions.” That release also confirms 50 recipients. Both halves of the fraction, from the sponsor, for one year.

Now extend it honestly, and label the assumption. eBay has not said how many people applied in 2026. If the 2026 pool were the same size as the only one eBay has ever disclosed — 18,000-plus — then ten awards would be roughly one in 1,800. If a smaller, later-announced, live-commerce-specific window pulled a much smaller field, say a quarter of it, the odds would still be around one in 450, worse than 2024. There is no version of this arithmetic in which the 2026 cycle is easier than the cycles the guides describe, because the numerator fell by 80% and nothing suggests the denominator fell as far.
That is not a reason to write the program off. It is a reason to price it correctly: a free lottery ticket with a $10,000 payout, a four-hour cost, and a written asset you reuse everywhere else. It is not a funding plan. If you need a shorter queue, programs that award every month give you twelve draws a year instead of one.
Seven years of windows: when it opens, when it answers
One intake a year, opening between late April and late May and closing in the first half of June, with recipients historically named in August or September — a pattern the 2026 cycle has already broken by pushing the reveal to a winter event.
Every date below comes from eBay’s own newsroom, read on August 27, 2026. The cadence is the single most useful thing to take away if you missed this year: there is nothing to do until roughly May, and then a four-to-six-week window.

The cumulative totals eBay publishes line up with that table and are worth quoting precisely, because they are often mangled elsewhere. In September 2023 eBay said the program had awarded “more than $2 million” since 2020. In May 2025 it said “more than $2.5 million to 250 eBay sellers.” In May 2026 it said “more than $3 million.” At a flat $10,000 a recipient, those figures are consistent with roughly 300 sellers funded across six completed cycles — and with 2026 adding only ten more.
One consequence of the annual rhythm deserves stating: because there is exactly one intake, the cost of missing the window is a full year. That is the case for the reopen-watch box on the program record rather than a calendar reminder you will ignore. It is also why the grant deadlines list matters more for this category than for rolling programs.
The fine print worth reading before the next window
Free to apply, no equity, flat award, one shot a year, one application per cycle, previous recipients barred for life — and the grant is almost certainly taxable income to your business.
Nothing costs money, and that matters
There is no application fee for the eBay grant, and Hello Alice’s own funding page states the platform is free to join with no fees to browse or apply to any grant program on it. That is worth stating outright because paid application fees do exist elsewhere in the microgrant market, and a free application is the clearest single signal separating a real grant channel from a fee-harvesting one. It also changes the arithmetic: a free entry only has to beat the value of four hours of your time, not four hours plus a cheque.
Win once and you are done
The published eligibility list bars anyone who has previously received an Up & Running grant. With roughly 300 past recipients, that is a small exclusion in absolute terms, but it means the program is not a renewable source of capital for a business that has already won. Plan it as a one-time event.
The equipment is the point now, not a bonus
Earlier cohorts got a $500 eBay Refurbished stipend for office technology. The 2026 cohort gets a pro-level live-selling equipment kit and one-on-one onboarding from the eBay Live team. If you have no intention of streaming, a meaningful share of the 2026 package is worth nothing to you — and the reviewers are choosing ten people who will use it.
Assume it is taxable
Grant income to a for-profit business is generally taxable, and neither eBay nor Hello Alice is your tax adviser. The GrantCompass record flags the same thing. A $10,000 award is not $10,000 of spendable cash; confirm the treatment with your own CPA before you allocate it.
Apply or skip: the verdict on the eBay Up & Running Grant
Conditional. Worth one afternoon next spring if you already meet the eBay seller bar and can write a credible live-commerce plan. Not worth planning around if either half is missing — ten awards is a lottery, not a funding strategy.
Apply if you are an established US eBay seller in good standing who genuinely wants to sell live. The economics are still good in isolation: no fee, no equity, a flat $10,000, plus mentorship and equipment that would cost real money to buy. If you are already streaming or about to, you are the exact person the 2026 reframing was written for, and the seller-rating gate keeps out most of the internet. Write the application as an eBay Live business plan, not a general small-business plan.
Skip if you are not already selling on eBay, if your seller rating is below the bar, if you have won before, or if live selling is not something you would actually do. And skip it as a plan regardless: with 10 awards against an applicant pool eBay last measured at over 18,000, this is a ticket you buy with a spare afternoon, not a line item you forecast. The 2026 window is shut until roughly May 2027 anyway — the only action available today is to put a watch on the program record and spend your actual application hours on something with a date on it.
Open on August 27, 2026, and worth the same afternoon
- Freed Fellowship Grant — $500 a month plus a $2,500 year-end award, with a cut-off at midnight ET on the last day of every month. Verified live on August 27, 2026: every applicant gets a scored feedback report whether or not they win, which is the opposite of eBay’s silence. Twelve draws a year instead of one.
- NASE Growth Grant — up to $4,000, with a winner chosen monthly from member applications, per the GrantCompass catalog record of August 27, 2026. Smaller than the eBay cheque, but the queue is short, the timetable is published, and an application written today is judged this month.
- Breva Thrive Grant — $5,000 once a quarter, with applications opening on the 1st and closing on the last day of each month inside the quarter, per the GrantCompass catalog record of August 27, 2026. A useful second target for an online seller while the big annual corporate windows are shut.
- DoorDash Restaurant Disaster Relief Fund — $5,000 to $10,000, also run on Hello Alice, activated after declared disasters with rounds that typically run four to six weeks. Only relevant if you are a restaurant in an affected area, but it is the other marketplace-sponsor program that is not currently between intakes.

Is the eBay Up & Running Grant legit?
Yes. It is funded and judged by eBay Inc. (Nasdaq: EBAY), announced through eBay’s own newsroom every year since 2020, and administered by Hello Alice. eBay names its recipients publicly — the 2024 and 2025 classes are listed by founder name, business name and city on ebayinc.com — which is the strongest available proof that the money moves. There is no application fee and no equity. The fair criticism is not legitimacy but scale: eBay quietly cut the 2026 program from 50 grants to 10, and most third-party pages describing this grant still quote the old numbers.
Have the 2026 eBay Up & Running grant winners been announced?
Not as of August 27, 2026. eBay’s Seller Center page says the application period has ended and that “a panel of eBay employees are currently reviewing applications,” that selected sellers “will be notified via email,” and invites sellers to its Winter Seller Check-In “to meet our 2026 eBay Live x Up & Running grantees.” That is later than the previous three cohorts, which were revealed on September 28, 2023, September 26, 2024 and August 14, 2025. eBay has not published a date for the 2026 Winter Seller Check-In; the event ran on October 23 in 2025 and November 14 in 2024. How much is the eBay grant, and do amounts vary?
It is a flat $10,000 in cash for every recipient — there is no tier and no partial award. In 2026 that cash is paired with a pro-level live-selling equipment kit and one-on-one onboarding, management and marketing support from the eBay Live team. In 2024 and 2025 the non-cash part was a $500 eBay Refurbished technology stipend plus coaching and educational resources instead. Anywhere you see “up to $10,000” for this program, the “up to” is an aggregator’s hedge, not eBay’s language.
Do I have to be an eBay seller to apply?
Yes. Every published version of the eligibility rules requires an active eBay seller account with listings in the past six months, and the last full list we could read also required an “Above Standard” or “Top Rated” seller rating, a US, DC or Puerto Rico location, and that you have not won an Up & Running grant before. eBay’s 2026 community post said “all sellers are eligible to apply, including current eBay Live sellers and those interested in joining the platform” — which loosens the live-selling question, not the selling question. When does the eBay grant open again?
eBay has not announced a 2027 cycle, and nothing on this page should be read as a promise that one is coming. What can be said is the pattern: one intake a year, opening April 25 in 2024, May 5 in 2025 and May 28 in 2026, and closing in the first half of June in 2024 and 2025 and on June 25 in 2026. Each window ran four to six weeks. If the pattern holds, watch from late April 2027. Is applying through Hello Alice a catch?
It is not a catch, but it is a decision. Hello Alice is a legitimate US small-business platform that administers corporate grant programs for named sponsors; eBay describes it as its partner for administering the program and providing mentorship and resources to everyone who applies, winner or not. Applying means creating a free account and completing a business profile, and that profile is what the platform matches against other sponsors’ criteria later. There is no fee. What you are trading is data and an email relationship for free access to a $10,000 corporate grant.
