EPA Pollution Prevention (P2) Grants

Free EPA-funded pollution prevention technical assistance for SMBs
EPA's Pollution Prevention grant program funds state agencies and tribal governments to provide technical assistance to businesses — especially manufacturers and small businesses — on reducing pollution at the source rather than treating or disposing of it. Grantees operate P2 programs that deliver free technical assistance, training, and tools directly to businesses. Small businesses do not apply to EPA directly; they receive free assistance through their state's EPA-funded P2 program. State P2 programs help businesses cut chemical use, reduce waste, save energy, and lower compliance costs. Note: The FY2026 presidential budget proposal included elimination of EPA Pollution Prevention grants. Congress has not enacted this cut as of May 2026; state P2 programs continue to operate. Deadline & timing
For businesses: no application deadline — services are available on a rolling basis through state P2 programs. For state agencies applying to EPA for P2 grants: EPA awards 2-year grants to state and tribal environmental agencies on a competitive basis; state competition is separate from business access. State programs are listed at epa.gov/p2/state-pollution-prevention-programs.
