Wyoming's SBIR match is among the biggest in the West
Wyoming matches federal SBIR and STTR awards with up to $100,000 for Phase I and up to $200,000 for Phase II — among the most generous state matching programs in the West. Companies must have at least 50% of employees based in Wyoming and commit to maintaining a meaningful Wyoming presence for 3 years post-award. Applications are open year-round with a decision within two weeks of a virtual pitch. Lifetime limit of 4 match awards per company.

Who qualifies
- Must hold an active federal SBIR or STTR Phase I or Phase II award
- Business must be registered and headquartered in Wyoming
- At least 50% of company employees must be based in Wyoming
- Must commit to maintaining a meaningful Wyoming business presence for at least 3 years post-award
- Must demonstrate commitment to securing additional funding beyond SBIR/STTR
- Maximum 4 lifetime grants per business

How to apply

Win a federal SBIR or STTR award
Receive a Phase I or Phase II federal SBIR/STTR award from any participating agency (NIH, NSF, DoD, DOE, etc.).

Submit Wyoming match application
Complete and submit the application to the Wyoming Business Council. Include federal award documentation, company background, commercialization plan, and Wyoming employment data.

Present virtually to WBC team
Qualified applicants present their technology, commercialization strategy, and Wyoming connection in a virtual pitch to the Wyoming Business Council review team.

Receive decision and execute grant contract
Decision within 2 weeks of pitch. Contract execution takes approximately 45 days. Upon signing, funding is disbursed. Annual reporting required for 3 years while maintaining Wyoming presence.
